Thailand's glittering capital city is well-known for its ornate shrines, lively street life, and magnificent temples, including the country's most important landmark, the Royal Grand Palace. Admire the countless Buddhas throughout the city, such as the glittering Emerald Buddha, Thailand's most revered, and the impressive Reclining Buddha. Enjoy the vibrant nightlife strolling through packed markets and sampling flavorful street food, from Tom Yum and curried rice to chicken satay and various noodle dishes.
Steeped in World War II history, Kanchanaburi is a rural escape from the bustle of nearby Bangkok. Cooled by the altitude and set to a backdrop of forests and rivers, visitors can explore the famous Bridge on the River Kwai, the expansive World War II Cemetery, and the Hellfire Pass Museum. Stroll along the Memorial Walking Trail, looking out onto Myanmar, as you listen to real-life experiences narrated by POWs.
Explore the ancient city of Ayutthaya, a UNESCO World Heritage Site founded by King U-Thong in 1350 as the capital of his Kingdom of Siam. By 1700, Ayutthaya had a million inhabitants, making it one of the largest cities in the world at the time; however, the city was invaded and destroyed by the Burmese army in 1767. Nevertheless, magnificent ruins of the old city remain, and exciting archaeological excavations are still ongoing at many sites in the area. Among the ruins, discover the Wat Mahathat, a sculpture of a Buddha head sticking out of winding tree roots.
Chiang Rai
Chiang Rai:
Regarded as the northernmost “large city” in Thailand, Chiang Rai is home to various hill tribes, intriguing temples, and some of the most stunning mountain scenery. Explore the beauty of the Doi Tung region and learn more about the sustainable agricultural practices introduced to protect the natural land before admiring the Mae Fah Luang Garden with its beautiful flowers and shrubbery. Finally, discover the Golden Triangle, where the borders of Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos converge.
Chiang Mai
Chiang Mai:
Known as the “Rose of the North” due to the abundance of colorful blooms that thrive in the cooler mountain climate, Chiang Mai’s stunning natural setting and bustling nightlife make it a great stop on any trip to Thailand! From meeting locals and learning to cook as you share stories to exploring the sprawling tea plantation and learning about the centuries-old techniques of cultivating some of the world’s best tea, Chiang Mai is a beacon for those looking to immerse themselves in Thai life.
Phuket, Thailand's most significant island, and the 39 smaller islands to the southeast are studded with tropical forests, mountains, gravity-defying limestone formations, and pristine beaches, surrounded by coral reefs and the aquamarine water of the balmy Andaman Sea. Phuket is a melting pot of Buddhists, Thai-Chinese, Muslims, and even sea gypsies, whom you'll find warm and welcoming. With warm weather year-round, enjoy plenty of sun-drenched days lounging on the beach, a perfect way to end your exciting Thailand adventure.
