When you think of Kenya, what comes to mind first is the expansive landscape teeming with wildlife, from grazing zebras and limber cheetahs to towering giraffes and migrating wildebeests. The most famous is the "Big 5", a group of animals appropriately known for the danger and difficulty even experienced trackers once faced pursuing these animals on foot. On your own Lion King adventure across Kenya, you'll be capturing pictures of these beautiful beasts as you travel on safari with trained rangers and wildlife spotters leading the way. Listen to the thunderous roar of a pride, witness intelligent interactions between gentle giants, and, if you're lucky, spot sneaky leopards prowling throughout the African bush!

Lion
Crowned as the King of the Jungle, lions are among the most beloved animals on the planet. Observe these social big cats relaxing in the day in the grassy plains before they actively hunt their prey at night. Lions are the only known cat species that roar together. You may even hear a pride before spotting it, as the collective roars can be heard from five miles away!

Leopard
Get your cameras ready to capture the most elusive member of the Big 5 - the leopard. These stealthy cats mainly hunt at night, but if you see them in the day, they will most likely be alone, hidden in the undergrowth or taking a nap in the trees. Leopards are agile climbers that use their tree-climbing skills as leverage to enjoy prey. Fun fact: They are the only big cat that purrs!

Elephant

Not only are elephants the largest of the Big 5, but they're also the largest land mammal in the world! These gentle giants are easy to spot, commonly found in large breeding herds or playing at the edge of watering holes. As you encounter elephants, notice their interactions with one another and how they take care of their herd members in moving ways.

Rhinoceros

Kenya is one of the best countries to encounter these endangered animals. Despite their enormous size, rhinos are herbivores that wallow in muddy pools or graze in the bush. Pay a visit to Ol Pejeta Conservancy, the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa. It also happens to be the location of the last two remaining northern white rhinos in the entire world.

Buffalo
With their colossal, curved horns, African buffalo are easy to spot as they roam by the thousands across open grasslands, thick bush, and around watering holes. When these large animals are on the move, the air fills with clouds of dust, an impressive sight in the bush. Among the most feared animals, you'll find buffaloes fascinating to watch when you spot them on safari.
