Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

Dear Friends,

I hope that you and your families are safe and well. Our team has been working diligently to assist travelers who were set to travel this spring and will now have to put off their dream trips a little longer. We believe it will take a few more months for normal travel to resume, and we continue to exchange information with our partners in destination and monitor resources like the Centers for Disease Control, the World Health Organization, and the US Department of State for guidance. If you have a trip booked to depart in the next 90 days, please contact us by email ( or by phone (800-555-5765) to discuss options for rescheduling.

Like you, our Friendly Planet team, along with our partners across the globe, are doing whatever we can to slow the spread of this virus, keeping our distance, checking in on our neighbors, and finding ways to help one another through this time. And we’re waiting patiently for the day when we can get back to exploring the world once more. While we can't head out just yet, we haven’t stopped daydreaming of and planning for future adventures!

At the end of the day, I believe this crisis will bring us together and make us stronger as a global community. Because we're all in this together.

Suspended Packages

All programs departing now through April 30th have been suspended. We will waive any Friendly Planet change fees for all suspended departures if you choose to rebook another 2020 or 2021 trip. That said, as you plan ahead please note that while the value of your ticket will remain available to rebook, you must do so within the parameters of your specific airline's policies. Typically, future travel must be on the originally booked carrier and travel must be completed within 12 months though many airline policies are rapidly changing. Our travel specialists will be contacting each of you to review these details and assist with rescheduling your trip for a future date.

Travel Insurance

  • Our travel protection plan from Travelex Insurance Services, like most travel insurance policies, does not provide coverage for trips that are cancelled due to COVID-19, including because of travel advisories, the destination being inaccessible, or fear of travel, unless you purchased our plan before Mar 18, 2020, and selected the Cancel for Any Reason option. Unfortunately, this option is no longer available for purchase.
  • Our plan does provide emergency medical & evacuation coverage if you become ill with the virus or are quarantined while traveling.
  • If you have purchased or are considering purchasing our plan, please see the Travelex Coronavirus (COVID-19) Coverage Update and the policy details.
  • If you are able to purchase a travel insurance policy from another provider that includes "cancel for any reason" coverage, this may cover cancellations related to the coronavirus.

Postponing or rescheduling: If you are traveling with us in the next few months and have questions about postponing or rescheduling your trip, please contact our Travel Specialists.

Entry restrictions: Some countries are presently restricting entry based on where a traveler has recently been. Please check this resource to ensure that you will be allowed to enter. If you think you may be denied entry, please contact us immediately.

Airports: Some international airports have implemented control procedures, such as temperature checks and health screenings, on arriving passengers. Please be patient and allow yourself extra time to accommodate these additional safety measures.
