Detailed Itinerary

These are sample itineraries and suggestions and hotel options that can be customized to create your own dream trip to Thailand.

Day 1: Depart USA

  • Your journey begins as you check in for your flight to Thailand, via Taipei

Day 2: En route

  • Cross the International Dateline and lose a day (which you will recover on the return leg of your trip)

Day 3: Arrive Bangkok

4 nights COMO Metropolitan (Silver), The Peninsula (Gold) or Mandarin Oriental (Platinum). Dinner.

  • Upon arrival in Bangkok, and after customs formalities, you will be met and greeted by a local representative for your transfer to your hotel. 
  • Revel in a relaxing day at leisure

This evening, get ready for a delicious dinner at Sra Bua by Kiin Kiin who offers a modern interpretation of Thai cuisine. Behind beautifully composed food presentation, familiar flavors of traditional dishes are maintained while the chefs push the boundaries of form, texture, and temperature.

Day 4: Bangkok

Grand Palace, BangkokFull Day Itinerary: After breakfast at the hotel, enjoy your morning at leisure. 

Temples, along with the monarchy, are the fabric that binds together the national identity that is Thailand, and many of these are found in Bangkok. This afternoon visit the Royal Grand Palace, Bangkok’s number one ‘must-see’ attraction as well as Thailand’s most important landmark. Your local guide will take you on an in-depth journey through Thailand’s history and royal heritage. Discover the grandeur and majesty of the buildings, throne halls and monuments. Marvel at the mysterious Emerald Buddha made from a solid piece of green jadite (jasper), the most revered Buddha image in Thailand, resided in Wat Phra Kaew. Afterwards, enjoy a drink at the Lebua Sky Bar just in time for sunset.  The Sky Bar offers amazing views of the Bangkok skyline. 

Later, cross the river to Sala Rim Naam Restaurant, one of Bangkok’s most prestigious dining venues, located on the banks of the Chao Phraya River. The Sala Rim Naam Restaurant is housed in a richly decorated Thai-style pavilion, and offers an incredibly unique dining and cultural experience, including a Thai classical dance show performed every evening.

Day 5: Bangkok

Thai cuisineOptional Excursion: Cooking Class at Blue Elephant, or similar, $175 pp. Bring an appetite for this culinary adventure! Meet with a chef from Blue Elephant Cooking School, one of the country’s most reputable traditional Thai cooking institutes. Visit one of the capital’s many morning markets for an introduction to Thai food culture. Browse the stalls, learning about the various ingredients for sale, watching the scenes of local life and selecting fresh items to be used in the cooking class. (NOTE: Market visit not available for afternoon course)

Return to Blue Elephant where the chef will demonstrate preparation methods, giving detailed commentary about the process. Then have a chance for hands-on experience! After the meal is prepared, sit down and enjoy the delicate flavors of authentic, Thai cuisine.

OCouple eating, Chinatown, Bangkokptional Excursion: Bicycle and boat tour from bustling Chinatown to rural Bangkok, $230 pp. Discover the different faces of Bangkok through a 5 hour bicycle and boat tour. From the exploration of bustling Chinatown to the quiet, forgotten and green plantations of rural Bangkok. In between, learn why this city is often referred to as “Venice of the East” as you pass through charming canals, viewing classical wooden-framed homes on stilts, and scenes of daily life. Along your tour, enjoy a tasty Thai-style meal.

Day 6: Bangkok

Wat Chaiwatthanaram, AyutthayaOptional Excursion: Explore the ruins of Ayutthaya, Thailand’s ancient capital, $150 pp. Early this morning travel to the ancient city of Ayutthaya, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. King U-Thong founded the city in 1350 as the capital of his kingdom of Siam. By 1700, Ayutthaya had as many as a million inhabitants, making it one of the largest cities in the world at the time. But in 1767, the city was invaded and destroyed by the Burmese army. Magnificent ruins of the old city still remain, some having been restored. Exciting archaeological excavations are still proceeding at many sites in the area. 

After a delicious Thai dish for lunch, take a leisurely long-tail boat ride down the Chao Phraya River. Arrive at Wat Niwet Thammaprawat to view the Gothic-style architecture and stained glass windows of this distinctive Buddhist temple. Take the cable car across the river for aerial views of the waterway then continue to Bang Pa-In Summer Palace. The Palace offers an opportunity to learn more about the Kingdom’s history and culture, with an impressive collection of gardens and majestic mansions.

Optional Excursion: Refresh your body and mind at the Oasis Spa, $90 pp.  Refresh your body and relax your tired muscles from a long journey by a selective Spa Treatment at one of the most deluxe day spas, the Oasis Spa, located in the heart of Bangkok.

Floating MarketOptional Excursion: Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, $100 pp.  This morning, visit the famous Damnoen Dauak Floating Market in Ratchaburi Province. Take a boat ride along the canal to experience the colorful floating marketplace, bustling with boats and vendors selling tropical fruits and other delights.

Day 7: Depart Bangkok/Arrive Chiang Mai

3 nights Ratilanna (Silver), Anantara (Gold) or 137 Pillars (Platinum). Breakfast & dinner.

  • Transfer to the airport for your flight to Chiang Mai
  • Upon arrival in Chiang Mai, meet our representative and transfer to your hotel
  • This evening, embark on a private scorpion tailed river cruise along the Mae Ping River
  • After the short cruise, relax with a private dinner for two at the Riverside Lawn

Full Day Itinerary: Enjoy a leisurely breakfast, then transfer to the airport for your flight to Chiang Mai.

After arrival at Chiang Mai International Airport, you will be welcomed by a local representative and transferred to your hotel.

This evening, embark from the hotel on a short river cruise on a private scorpion tailed boat along the Mae Ping River. Enjoy a drink and appetizers during your cruise. Afterwards, relax with a private dinner for two set up at the Riverside Lawn.

Day 8: Chiang Mai

  • This afternoon, visit Wat Suan Dok, one of the oldest Buddhist temples in Chiang Mai
  • Next, climb the staircase of Wat Phra That Doi Suthep and enjoy a birds eye view of Chiang Mai

Wat Suan Dok, Chiang MaiFull Day Itinerary: Enjoy your morning at leisure or take advantage of the optional excursion.

Your tour of beautiful Chiang Mai starts mid-afternoon. First, a visit to the city’s old town, as you venture through the crumbling city walls and admire a blend of old and new buildings. Catch glimpses of glittering pagoda spires illuminated by the late afternoon sun. 

Explore one of the city’s most revered and oldest Buddhist temples in Chiang Mai, Wat Suan Dok. Witness local devotees deep in prayer or paying homage to the mausoleum where the ashes of the former Royal Family are buried. 

Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, Chiang MaiContinue on to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, where you will climb the staircase to enjoy a bird’s eye view of the city, admiring the intricate naga carvings along the way. Upon reaching the top, explore the 14th-century pagoda and hear about its origins. Wander around the towering gilded stupa and enjoy the views of Chiang Mai in the distance.

Before the sun sets, receive a blessing of good health and fortune from one of Doi Suthep’s monks. Afterwards, witness the evening chanting of the monks, a serene way to end the day’s tour.

Cooking lessonOptional Excursion: Pantawan Cooking Lesson with a local chef, $100 pp.  Uncover the secrets behind Thailand’s famous dishes at the Pantawan Cooking School. Travel south of the city center to a traditional teakwood house to meet with a local chef. 

Travel to a nearby and lively market where you will see exotic herbs and spices and learn about their uses. During the visit, the chef will introduce local vendors and explain more about Thailand’s food culture. 

Armed with a basic knowledge of Thai cuisine and its ingredients, return to Pantawan and start cooking! Chop vegetables, stir up spicy sauces and fry up sizzling dishes. Throughout the lesson, the chef will share his personal story and offer tips and hints for preparing these same dishes back at home. Savor the delicate flavors of home-cooked Thai cuisine, enjoying the results of the day’s activities.

Day 9: Chiang Mai

Inthanon Mountain panoramaOptional Excursion: Doi Inthanon National Park, $145 pp.  Venture away from the buzz of Chiang Mai’s city centre, driving into the hills for a day of trekking through the pristine landscapes of Thailand’s north at Doi Inthanon National Park.

Hike to a Karen hilltribe village, where you will meet locals to discover their traditional ways of life and unique culture. Learn about their work at a mountainside coffee plantation which produces high-quality beans sold throughout Thailand.

Wachiratharn WaterfallContinue deeper into the lush forest, catching glimpses of towering peaks and mountain streams on the way. Keep an eye out for a variety of species including gibbons, deer, wild boar and more than 350 bird species.

Conclude the Doi Inthanon hike at one of the most spectacular sites, the Wachiratharn Waterfall. View the stunning 230-foot fall which crashes into refreshing shallow pools at the base. Rest, relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings before returning to town late this afternoon.

Group of elephantsOptional Excursion: Mae Taeng Valley Elephant Sanctuary, $175 pp.  This morning drive from Chiang Mai toward the scenic Mae Taeng Valley. Arrive at the elephant sanctuary, an organization providing a home and protection for Thailand’s elephants. Meet with some of the park’s residents to gain a better understanding of the elephant population and see these majestic animals in their natural habitat.

Day 10: Depart Chiang Mai/Arrive USA

Breakfast.

  • After breakfast this morning, transfer to the airport for your short flight to Bangkok
  • Board your return flight to the USA via Taipei, arriving in the USA later on today
