Cuba tourism boom has operators scrambling for guides
Friendly Planet launched its people-to-people programs to Cuba in 2011, and since then, “we’ve become experts at building relationships within the destination, from securing the best accommodations to sourcing local cultural experiences and activities,” said President Peggy Goldman. These relationships have also enabled the company to work with well-informed tour directors and guides. “We’ve not had any shortage of experts to lead our programs in Cuba, but I expect that newer entries to the market may face challenges due to increased competition,” Goldman said. “Many of our directors and guides come to us through referrals from existing tourism entities in Cuba as well as our association with the International Guide Academy.” Read more
The Once-Forgotten and Beautiful Country of Zimbabwe is Making a Slow Comeback
Typically, South Africa gets all the glory when it comes to visiting the continent; but Zimbabwe was actually once considered one of Africa’s most beautiful destinations. Over the years, under President Robert Mugabe's regime, political unrest has kept tourists from adding it to their travel wish lists. Yet, Peggy Goldman, Founder of Friendly Planet Travel still believes that the destination is worth a visit. "The country faces poverty and political corruption, unfortunate situations for any country, but it is also blessed with amazing physical beauty and is in a part of Africa with a rich wildlife center that has the resources and infrastructure to protect tourists." Below are just a few rave reviews from our customers. See more testimonials.
We traveled to many places and enjoyed many tours before, but this was so special. Your tour guide was by far the best we have ever had. He made our trip extra special, attended to all the details and treated us with great respect. He made the trip effortless and took the worry totally out of the trip. We were surprised by the quality of service provided to us. All the arrangements were made with our comfort in mind; the hotel rooms were the nicest we have stayed in. We would definitely use Friendly Planet for our next vacation and recommend this service to all our friends.

This tour exceeded all my expectations! The national tour guide, Peter, stayed with us throughout the tour, and in addition, we had local guides to describe each city we visited. Peter and the local guides were personable, knowledgeable, and extremely helpful. As an example of Peter's concern for us, my wife hurt her back just before the trip began. Peter made accommodations for her, and went to the pharmacy to get a cream for her. The cream was effective, her problem cleared up and she enjoyed the rest of the trip. We stayed at top rated hotels with great meals (their breakfast buffets, included in the trip cost, had over 30 items to sample, each of them delicious!). Considering the tour guides, the meals and accommodations, the transportation (tour bus, bullet train, plane trips, rickshaw rides and short boat cruises) and seeing great points of interest, I cannot believe the cost was so low and the quality so high...but it was! I will definitely recommend this to my friends!

I was very pleasantly surprised with the arrangements included on this tour. This was my first time traveling with Friendly Planet Travel and I highly recommend them for this trip. Thank you very much for the memorable experience to see Borneo and Bangkok. Keep up the good work!
Just returned from my first trip with Friendly Planet and was so impressed that I had to write this note. You have a lot of choices in travel and I have found my tour company at last. Everything about my trip was amazing—our guide, Ibrahim, was not only extremely knowledgeable, but also patient and very funny. Hotels, transportation, meals, added excursions were all superb. Everything went off without a hitch—I felt safe and cared for every minute and could spend ALL of my time enjoying the trip instead of worrying about the travel details. Turkey, its people, scenery, food, monuments and parks are just wonderful. I can't wait for my next trip. So little time, so much to see...

When our plane landed in Nairobi and we were walking down the steps, the first thing we saw was Marcie with a sign that said "Friendly Planet." I knew then that our family was in good hands. We loved traveling with other families and our six year old enjoyed his "friends from Africa." (Though in reality they were from LA and Minnesota). Raefael our tour guide rocked! The elephants were hiding because they don't like the migrating zebras and wildebeest so Raefael busted to find us one. He had eyes like an eagle. The only thing we didn't see was a rhino but being woken up by the hippo in front of my door compensated.
