The Once-Forgotten and Beautiful Country of Zimbabwe is Making a Slow Comeback
Typically, South Africa gets all the glory when it comes to visiting the continent; but Zimbabwe was actually once considered one of Africa’s most beautiful destinations. Over the years, under President Robert Mugabe's regime, political unrest has kept tourists from adding it to their travel wish lists. Yet, Peggy Goldman, Founder of Friendly Planet Travel still believes that the destination is worth a visit. "The country faces poverty and political corruption, unfortunate situations for any country, but it is also blessed with amazing physical beauty and is in a part of Africa with a rich wildlife center that has the resources and infrastructure to protect tourists." Cuba tourism boom has operators scrambling for guides
Friendly Planet launched its people-to-people programs to Cuba in 2011, and since then, “we’ve become experts at building relationships within the destination, from securing the best accommodations to sourcing local cultural experiences and activities,” said President Peggy Goldman. These relationships have also enabled the company to work with well-informed tour directors and guides. “We’ve not had any shortage of experts to lead our programs in Cuba, but I expect that newer entries to the market may face challenges due to increased competition,” Goldman said. “Many of our directors and guides come to us through referrals from existing tourism entities in Cuba as well as our association with the International Guide Academy.” Read more

This safari was a dream come true! We saw so many animals! Every animal that I had dreamed about seeing was in abundance! Best lodging, great food and the guides were superb! I would go again today if I could!

Traveling to East Africa has been a long awaited dream for me. Last November, I was finally able to realize my dream by going on Friendly Planet's 2 week jeep safari to Kenya and Tanzania. The trip was organized locally by Vintage Africa. I cannot sing enough praises for Vintage Africa, and especially our driver guide in Kenya, James Mungai. James was an extremely knowledgeable and attentive guide. His ability to intelligently answer all of our sometimes unusual questions and spot wildlife from miles away never ceased to amaze us. James went out of his way to accommodate our needs and was always patient with all our requests, from stopping to photograph every sunset and tree cluster to positioning his vehicle for the perfect photo opportunity. As a seasoned traveler, I can truly say that this trip has been one of my favorites and having James as our guide contributed to making it so memorable. I can only hope that my next group excursion will be as enjoyable and well organized.
This tour exceeded all my expectations! The national tour guide, Peter, stayed with us throughout the tour, and in addition, we had local guides to describe each city we visited. Peter and the local guides were personable, knowledgeable, and extremely helpful. As an example of Peter's concern for us, my wife hurt her back just before the trip began. Peter made accommodations for her, and went to the pharmacy to get a cream for her. The cream was effective, her problem cleared up and she enjoyed the rest of the trip. We stayed at top rated hotels with great meals (their breakfast buffets, included in the trip cost, had over 30 items to sample, each of them delicious!). Considering the tour guides, the meals and accommodations, the transportation (tour bus, bullet train, plane trips, rickshaw rides and short boat cruises) and seeing great points of interest, I cannot believe the cost was so low and the quality so high...but it was! I will definitely recommend this to my friends!

We all had a wonderful time and marveled at how clean, pretty and safe Havana was. We particularly liked our visit to the Center for Adult Day Care where we were asked to go onto a stage so the 200 or so people at the Center, a former convent, could welcome us. The Director asked if any of us wanted to say something to them in Spanish. I volunteered and in the best Spanish I could muster at the time told them "we were happy to be in Cuba, that we were from the United States of America, and that we hoped they were happy we were there." The crowd burst into a loud, sustained applause. When we came off the stage and filed past the audience, everyone reached over to shake our hands. It was very touching and almost brought us to tears as we didn't expect such a hardy welcome from Cubans.
I just returned from your Treasures of Thailand tour. I wanted to let you know that I was so impressed with every aspect of this trip! When I booked this tour I was honestly apprehensive. The price was so good it seemed too good to be true. I really expected to have problems along the way, but there were none! Our tour guide, Ms. Atchara, was outstanding! She took a personal interest in everyone on the tour. There were many times she stopped and bought small presents for our group, like local food to sample or tiger balm for sore feet. The one thing that I really felt was over and above was the fact that she personally picked me up from the airport on my return from Phuket! I expected a private car for a transfer, but she came along just to see me again and to make sure I had a good time in Phuket! I feel like I've left a friend behind in Thailand, and I wanted to make sure you know what outstanding people you have working for you there! I can definitely say after this wonderful experience that I would highly recommend Friendly Planet Travel to anyone looking to see the world at a great price. I will absolutely be traveling with you in the future! Thank you again!
