Cuba tourism boom has operators scrambling for guides
Friendly Planet launched its people-to-people programs to Cuba in 2011, and since then, “we’ve become experts at building relationships within the destination, from securing the best accommodations to sourcing local cultural experiences and activities,” said President Peggy Goldman. These relationships have also enabled the company to work with well-informed tour directors and guides. “We’ve not had any shortage of experts to lead our programs in Cuba, but I expect that newer entries to the market may face challenges due to increased competition,” Goldman said. “Many of our directors and guides come to us through referrals from existing tourism entities in Cuba as well as our association with the International Guide Academy.” Read more
The Once-Forgotten and Beautiful Country of Zimbabwe is Making a Slow Comeback
Typically, South Africa gets all the glory when it comes to visiting the continent; but Zimbabwe was actually once considered one of Africa’s most beautiful destinations. Over the years, under President Robert Mugabe's regime, political unrest has kept tourists from adding it to their travel wish lists. Yet, Peggy Goldman, Founder of Friendly Planet Travel still believes that the destination is worth a visit. "The country faces poverty and political corruption, unfortunate situations for any country, but it is also blessed with amazing physical beauty and is in a part of Africa with a rich wildlife center that has the resources and infrastructure to protect tourists." Definitely will do another trip and recommend to everyone I know. You guys blew my expectations away!
One of best trips we have taken. Everything was first rate! If you are new to Friendly Planet, you will be telling all your friends about them. Peru is a wonderful destination.

The hotels, the breakfasts and the train were very high class. The people at the hotels were great. We had a great time. I think you guys are great. This was my second trip and I don't know how many people I have told about your agency. Great experience, great price. First class hotels. Very happy with everything.
We just returned from the Kenya Wildlife Safari and one would have to say, 'Hakuna Matata" about any concern I had after reading travel reviews that the Intercontinental Hotel in Nairobi was less than satisfactory! It is disconcerting that one could complain about the accommodations. While it is an older hotel, it is clean and in a great location, particularly given the short amount of free-time we had. This location gave us a chance to go to the Intercontinental Market and to see the Parliament and governmental buildings. I would rate our breakfasts at the Intercontinental as scrumptious and the presentation was incredible! Who could possibly complain about fresh squeezed orange juice, Kenyan coffee with hot milk, and a variety of over 50 feet of food choices? It is absolutely awesome and the service was superb. Thanks to Vintage Africa we had an incredible driver, Dominic, who has an A+ personality, and is probably a mixture of human/animal/bird! Dominic could sense animals before they were visible and he knew their patterns along with having a vast knowledge of their behaviors and instincts. He astonished us with his mastery of the bird species. We learned so much from him and it was obvious he loves his job! This was the most spectacular Safari we could imagine and we cannot thank all the Friendly Planet staff and Vintage Africa for making it one we will never forget. Our accommodations, the food, and everything else were simply marvelous! Friendly Planet was recommended to us by an unfamiliar traveler we met in California: now we will recommend friendly Planet to our friends and acquaintances and we will be back for another adventure with Friendly Planet in the future!
Matt, the guide was excellent, very attentive. When he was explaining the sites he was patient and knowledgeable. The hotels were excellent and the tours that were included on trip were great.
