Weather

Known for its frequent rainfall, London's climate ranges from average temperatures of 43° F in January to 72° F in July. Temperatures are cooler in May and October and warmer June-September. August can be very hot and humid. Take along an umbrella and sweater no matter when you go.

Tipping

In restaurants and taxis, tip anywhere from 10-15% (12.5% is the norm). Some establishments include a service charge on the bill, so be sure to check first. Tipping at counter-service establishments, such as pubs, is optional, but always appreciated.

Money & Credit Cards

ATMs can be found throughout the city and are generally accessible 24 hours a day. Travelers can typically get the best exchange rate by withdrawing pounds at ATMs.

Always notify your bank prior to departure to avoid any problems using your credit or debit card while traveling.

Shopping

London is world renowned for its shopping. From world-famous department stores such as Harrods to its lively street markets, there is something for everybody. Designer stores, national chaings, and specialized boutiques can be found along Bond Street, Oxford Street, and Kensington High Street. Booklovers and antique hounds will delight in the search for treasures in the shops that line Charing Cross Road.

Electricity & Power Adapters

240 volts. You will need a voltage converter and plug adapter in order to use U.S. appliances. We recommend getting a universal adapter and converter kit.
