Passports & Travel Visas

Requirements for Kenya Safari Express

Visa Required: Travelers to Kenya must have a passport and visas for entry. Passports must be valid for at least 6 months after the return date of travel and must contain at least 3 blank pages for visa and immigration stamps. U.S. passport holders can obtain a Kenya visa upon arrival, but they are not guaranteed, may be required to be paid for in USD (cash) and may experience delays. We strongly suggest obtaining your visa before departure. For fast and easy visa processing, we recommend our preferred provider, VisaHQ. If you hold a non-US passport, please contact the embassy directly in order to determine what the requirements are. Please be advised, Friendly Planet will send you a Visa Support Letter(s) and e-ticket(s) via email 60 days prior to departure (provided your final payment has been received and we have a legible copy of your passport). Please do not apply for your visa until you receive both the Visa Support Letter and e-ticket.

General Requirements

A current passport is required for all U.S. citizens traveling abroad. Many countries will not allow you to enter their borders if your passport expires less than six months after your date of return.

Many countries also require a travel visa for entry. Visa requirements vary by country; see below. We will send complete details, including visa instructions and application forms for U.S. passport holders, in your confirmation packet.

If you're not a U.S. passport holder, you must carefully review the passport and visa requirements for each country on your itinerary, as visa requirements vary depending upon your country of citizenship. If your tour is visiting multiple countries, please review the requirements for each country visited on your tour.

It is the responsibility of each traveler to determine passport and visa requirements and comply with them and to secure the proper travel documents. To avoid disappointment and unnecessary expenses, please carefully review the requirements so that you can obtain all necessary documents well before your trip.

  • Some countries issue visas upon arrival. But in most cases, it is not possible to obtain a visa instantly.
  • Airlines and cruises may deny boarding and your tour may be disrupted if your visa is not in order.
  • If your tour or cruise visits multiple countries, carefully review the entire itinerary (including all ports of call on cruises) to determine what visas are required and if you may need a multiple-entry visa.
  • Pay special attention to international flight routing. Some countries require visas for transiting through their airports, even if you are just passing through en route to another country.
  • We will not be held responsible for any charges, trip interruptions, or cancellations due to incorrect or missing visas, nor will travel insurance cover your lost expenses.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

As of July 31, 2013 the Indian Consulate outsourced its visa processing to a company named BLS. Recently it has come to our attention that several of our travelers have encountered difficulty dealing directly with BLS. The most common issue is that BLS rejects applications if there is any incomplete or incorrect information in the application, no matter how minor.

We strongly recommend that you consider using a visa service that will apply to BLS on your behalf as any such visa delays or problems can jeopardize your ability to travel to India. Overall, it is much easier and faster to arrange your visa through a service. Our preferred visa service provider is VisaHQ. When you submit your application materials to VisaHQ, they carefully review your application before submitting it to BLS. If there is a problem, with your application, VisaHQ will contact you directly and request you resend the missing or incorrect information, as opposed to rejecting the application like BLS does. This will ensure you get your visa in a timely way. The price is slightly more expensive ($68 for a direct application to BLS vs. $147 for VisaHQ). However, for this nominal cost, you enjoy professional and expert handling. Many of our former travelers agree that the peace of mind that comes with a visa service provider is well worth the extra money.

Should you decide to obtain your visa directly through BLS, please be sure to apply no earlier than 75 days and no later than 60 days prior to your departure, to allow ample time for processing.
