The Aberdare Country Club, only a two and a half hour drive northeast from Nairobi, is nestled on a slope of Mweiga Hill in the Aberdare Highlands, part of the Great Rift Valley. This captivating site was the homestead of an English couple that decided to settle in Kenya. Almost a half century later, their home, "The Steep", was renamed the Aberdare Country Club and opened for guests. Considered a heritage property in Kenya, The Aberdare Country Club has retained the charm of a private home with the simple comforts of a country inn.
All rooms are styled to the era of old “English cottages”, with simple décor, reminiscent of an old farmhouse with the comfort of today’s luxury. All the rooms in the cottages are equipped with en-suite bathrooms, telephone, fireplace, tea/coffee making facilities and private balcony with spectacular views to the north, over-looking the Solio Game Sanctuary which has both the black and white rhinos. On a clear day one can view the Aberdare ranges to the west and Mount Kenya to the East, while surrounded by herds of wildlife grazing around you in the club’s own animal sanctuary.
The Lord Aberdare Restaurant was the original dining room for the Lyon family. Now expanded to accommodate over 100 guests, it still exudes that homey ambiance. Guests have several choices including alfresco dining on the lawns. The food is very fresh with organic vegetables and spices right from the Club gardens and fruits brought in daily fresh from the village. Reminiscent of an old English pub, The Lord Aberdare Bar is a comfortable place to relax after a long journey or a round of golf. With a TV room and several fireplaces, this is the perfect place to enjoy your favorite cocktail.
The health club and spa has a gym, sauna, steam rooms and massage rooms. The Club’s pool is well situated next to the health club and the tennis courts.
