Kunal & Leena Bhojawala in Thailand Thank you for a wonderful honeymoon experience! The Treasures of Thailand tour was very well organized. Our tour guide Matthew was a delight. He was very knowledgable and enthusiastically helpful. We had a wonderful time getting to know our fellow tour participants. We're definitely very happy we chose the Friendly Planet Tours as our honeymoon vacation. And as you can see from the pictures, we had quite an adventurous time! P.S. Thank you, Friendly Planet, for the extra-special treatment, for us honeymooners, at all of the beautiful hotels we stayed at.

Day 4: Chiang Mai. This ancient city boasts many of Bangkok's amenities, including excellent food and accommodations but without the frenetic pace of modern city life. From its origins as a small northern town, it has become a city representative of modern Thai culture with a beautiful personality of its own represented, in part, by the many temples found here.

This morning you'll visit some of the most interesting temples found in town. Then travel high into the mountains, to Wat Doi Suthep, one of the most revered temples in all Thailand, with its famous 79' tall golden chedi, covered entirely with engraved gold plate. The afternoon is at leisure to explore on your own. (B)

When we saw the price of this trip I booked it as a joke. My wife and I had never done an organized trip like this. Well, we were blown away by the whole experience. The guide Panu was wonderful and the trip was the best value I have ever had in my many travel experiences. We have two more trips booked with you and are really looking forward to them. Your company is the best kept secret around and we are glad that we tried you

Day 6: Golden Triangle & Chiang Rai. After breakfast, depart Chiang Mai and drive through mountains, valleys and the lush landscape of northern Thailand to Mae Chan, with its Yao and Akha hill tribes. Continue to Mae Sai, the northernmost point of Thailand, separated from the Burmese border town of Thakhilek by a small river also called Mae Sai. Take a stroll through the local market where you'll find jade and other Burmese jewelry and handicrafts, then continue to Chiang Saen, a small town on the bank of the Mekong River, on the border with Laos.

(B)

Laura & Cory Jurica in Thailand Again you have surpassed our expectations with the perfect trip. All of our hotels were top of the line. They alone are worth the price of the trip but you threw in the airfare and two experienced guides to make the perfect vacation. Nok and Mona were really wonderful. They made sure that we were able to learn about the Thai people and culture. I still do not know how you offer such great packages at so low of a price.

Day 8: Chiang Rai & Lampang. Depart for Phayao, a rural lakeside province surrounded by beautiful mountains and valleys dotted with fascinating religious sites. En route visit Wat Rong Khun, also known as the "White"Temple. A lifetime project of artist Chalermchai Kositpipat, the temple has a fine blend of traditional Buddhist art with contemporary themes and is decorated with small pieces of mirrored glass which add substantially to its dramatic beauty. Early afternoon, arrive in Lampang, famous for its narrow streets and horse-drawn carriages, and rich in archaeological evidence reflecting various ancient civilizations. Wienglakor Hotel (B)

What a wonderful time we had on the Treasures of Thailand tour. My partner even got to be the elephant mahout for a day. I celebrated my birthday on the tour and our guide Tajma had a cake locally baked to celebrate the occasion - delicious coconut cake! We will definitely travel with Friendly Planet again! Thank you Friendly Planet for making it all seem so seamless and convenient!

Day 10: Phitsanulok, Ayutthaya & Bangkok. Built on the banks of the Nan River, Phitsanulok served as the Siamese capital for 25 years and was also the birthplace of King Naresuan. Today it is a busy, dynamic city and one of the larger of Thailand's provincial towns. This morning visit the Bronze Case Factory where a huge range of bronze Buddha images are cast using the 'lost wax method' which visitors can observe firsthand. Drive through the beautiful countryside, past fields of rice paddies, to Lopburi and Phra Prang Sam Yot, regarded as Lopburi's chief landmark. Like many sites in Lopburi, Phra Prang Sam Yot is overrun by monkeys, so hold on tight to your baseball caps, sunglasses and scarves.

Magnificent ruins of the old city still remain, some having been restored, and archaeological excavations are still proceeding at many sites in the area. Finally, arrive in Bangkok, bustling, captivating and fascinating capital of Thailand, situated on the banks of the Chao Phraya River. Majestic Grande Bangkok Hotel (B)

I travel frequently and recently took your amazing Thailand trip. I must say how impressed I was...I had a trip without a glitch. You guys are the best! I will definitely do business with you again, guaranteed. I seldom take the time to rate a trip; however, this exceptional trip deserves an exceptional review.

Reclining Buddha, Bangkok, Thailand

Day 11: Bangkok. Temples, along with the monarchy, are the fabric that binds together the national identity that is Thailand, and some of the most interesting of Thai temples are found in Bangkok, including Wat Trimitr. Here you will view the 700-year-old Golden Buddha, the largest in the world weighing approximately 5 tons. At Wat Po, founded in the 17th century and the oldest temple in Bangkok, you'll view the amazing Reclining Buddha, whose face depicts the attainment of Nirvana and whose feet are inlaid with mother-of-pearl.

This afternoon is at leisure to explore on your own. An optional canal boat ride gives you a close up of traditional Thai life as you explore some of Bangkok's waterways. The network of canals (klongs) branching out from the main Chao Phraya river still follows an old lifestyle that leaves the modern face of Bangkok behind.(B)

At the price, I thought we would fly on the outside of the airplane, and get around Thailand by goat cart. Instead, China Air was a new plane, we got around by a new bus, in the best hotels in town, and had a guide who was an absolute joy. I could not recommend the trip more highly. We took the extension to Angkor Wat, which was marvelous. Only problem was the 23 hour ride getting home, but short of having one's own jet, that is life for the traveler

Building a friendlier planet

Friendly Planet sponsored well in Cambodian village In Cambodia, like many developing countries, people often struggle to obtain even the most basic necessities of life, such as clean, potable water. It takes only $200 to dig a well and install a pump that provides clean water to several dozen families, but it may as well cost a million. In a country where the average income is less than a dollar a day and 40% of the population lives in poverty, many Cambodians in rural areas simply can't afford the cost, so they live with the hardship and illness that comes with dirty water.

As a sign of goodwill and a thank you for welcoming us into their country, Friendly Planet has funded the construction of two wells in Cambodian villages and plans to purchase more. Several of our passengers, seeing the difference such a small investment can make, have volunteered to do the same. How thrilling to realize that our $200 investment yields a healthier life for these people, who have so very little. We are touched that this well, dug with our funds, was decorated with our company logo.

I saw your story about building wells in Cambodia. I just wanted to let you know that thanks to our trip to Cambodia last January, my wife and I have donated for 2 wells and I am raising money for a large well for a village. I hope to have that done by the time we go back in February 08. We stay in touch with our tour guide, Theap Bunthin. We love Friendly Planet and the experiences we have.

— Conrad & Nancy Knab

It's not very often these days that you get more than promised but that's what we got from Treasures of Thailand. The whole trip including hotels, the tour guide, the food, and the sights seen exceeded our expectations. The days were planned out very well; even the longer travel days included plenty of interesting stops to break up the trip. Others in our group who had toured elsewhere were very impressed with the quality compared to much more expensive tours. I was a little worried about doing a tour bus trip based on stories I heard about them being rigid and too touristy, but this trip included great flexibility, wonderful optional add-ons, and focused on both highlight sights and everyday, local culture. I can't imagine a better way to see so much of Thailand in such an enjoyable way. We loved out tour guide Lucky (Ms. Pensri). She was very knowledgeable, funny, kind, well-organized, and went out of her way to ensure we saw and experienced as much as possible. She was always looking out for us, to the point of going into one hotel's kitchen to get the chef to cook faster and hitching a ride on a local salesman's motorcycle to find a wayward tourer lost at a temple ruins. She was frequently buying local foods for us to sample and making sure we got good deals on local products and services. The second we looked like we had lost something, or we starting looking around for a bathroom, or we looked like we needed second helpings at a dinner, she'd run over to us to see how she could help. I am back at your website posting these comments because I am about to book my next Friendly Planet Tour. Thanks for a great trip.
