Welcome to Krakow, Poland’s second largest city, located on the banks of the Vistula River and tracing its roots back to the 7th century. In 1978 Karol Wojtyla, the Archbishop of Krakow, was elevated to become Pope John Paul II. He was the first Slavic Pope and the first non-Italian Pope in more than 400 years.

Itinerary

Day 1: Depart USA

  • Your exciting trip to Krakow begins today as you depart for Poland on an overnight flight.

Day 2: Arrive Krakow, Poland

Full Day Itinerary:St. Marys BasilicaUpon arrival in Krakow, make your own way to your hotel independently or choose our optional airport transfer. Enjoy the balance of the day to relax and unwind and enjoy the facilities of the hotel.

Days 3-5: Krakow, Poland

Full Day Itinerary:Wieliczka Salt MinesEnjoy 3 days of leisure to explore beautiful Krakow on your own. Visit Wawel Castle; Church of St. Joseph or see the old city walls and Florian Gate.

Krakow's Old Town is a UNESCO sight and features the Barbican, the Cloth Hall and Rynek Glowny.

Not to be missed is the Wielczka Salt Mine. One of the oldest salt mines in Europe, this mine is also home to fabulous carvings of figures and altarpieces.

Day 6: Return to the USA

  • This morning, transfer to the airport independently or select our optional transfer.
  • Later, return to the USA.

Recommended Activities

Salt Mines of Wieliczka

The Wieliczka Salt Mine was created during over nine centuries of excavation. Today it consists of over 300 kilometers of galleries and 3000 chambers spread over nine floors.

Your guide will show you some of the ancient shafts, salt lakes, mining equipment and art work housed in the mine.  The Wielisczka Salt mine is on the UNESCO World List of Cultural and Natural Heritage sights.

Half day tour of Krakow

Visit Krakow’s Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site, which was the seat of Polish power until the late 1500’s. During your tour you will visit the Jewish District which was the scene of the uprising on January 18, 1943.

Also visit St. Mary's Church which was originally constructed during the early 15th century has been destroyed and reconstructed numerouse times; most recently after World War II.

The Cathedral at Wawel Hill was constructed more than 900 years ago and was the the church where Karol Wojtyla (later John Paul II) was ordained into the priesthood.
