Iberian Coasts Cruise Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Depart USA. Your exciting Mediterranean journey begins this evening as you check-in for your overnight jet flight bound for Italy.

Day 2: Arrive in Genoa, Italy. Arrive today in Genoa, Italy. After customs formalities, you'll be escorted to the port to board your cruise ship, the Louis Majesty, and begin your weeklong cruise. Louis Majesty (B,D)

Day 3: Marseilles, France.This morning, arrive in Marseilles, a city whose history dates back to 600 B.C. when it was founded by the ancient Greeks. Since then, it has grown to become the second largest city in France and the country's largest commercial port. Enjoy the splendor of Marseilles by visiting its must-see sites including the Old Port, the Basilica of Notre Dame de la Garde Phare de Sainte Marie lighthouse, the Centre Bourse, and the adjacent rue St Ferreol district (the main shopping district in central Marseilles). We also recommend a ride along the Kennedy Corniche, a coastal road with excellent views across the Bay of Marseilles. (B,L,D)

Day 4: Barcelona, Spain. Today, visit Barcelona, capital of Cataluña, home to the 1992 Olympics, and Spain's most exciting, flamboyant and sophisticated city. Walk the beautiful shaded Las Ramblas boulevard, which the Spanish poet Federico García Lorca once said "the only street in the world which I wish would never end."

See the famous palm tree-lined Plaça Real square, hub of Barcelona nightlife. Take time to explore the Barrio Gotico (old quarter), a 14th century maze of tiny houses, stately palaces and intriguing shops. Visit one of the many cafés where Catalan voices accompany dancers swaying to the Sardana or the impassioned foot-stamping Flamenco.

Marvel at one of the greatest architectural achievements of the 20th century, the lavishly extravagant Cathedral of Sagrada Família. Renowned Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí designed this magnificent creation and devoted the last 15 years of his life entirely to it. Construction began in 1882 and will not be complete until 2026. Marvel at the cavernous interior, held aloft by stone columns that branch like trees as they rise upwards. Ascend its soaring towers—the tallest rises over 550 feet—constructed of such a thin lattice of stone that they seem to defy gravity, for some of the best views of the city. (B,L,D)

Day 5: Alicante, Spain. Arrive this afternoon in the Spanish resort city of Alicante, where you'll have time to enjoy the beaches, warm weather, and relaxing atmosphere. We recommend a stroll along the Explanada de España, a palm-lined promenade along the harbor. Other interesting attractions include the Castillo de Santa Barbara and the old Barrio de Santa Cruz. Day 6: Gibraltar, B.C.C & Tangier, Morocco. Arrive this morning in Gibraltar, a British colony set in the Spanish hillside at the mouth of the Mediterranean Sea. The famous Rock of Gibraltar offers several points of interest including St. Michael's Cave, which served as a hospital during World War II, the Gibraltar Museum, and a 12th century Arab castle. Ascend the Rock by foot or cable car to take in the fantastic panoramic views from Europa Point.

Continue sailing to Tangier, Morocco. The closest major African city to Europe, Tangier was once home to writers Paul & Jane Bowles, William Burroughs, Allen Ginsburg and Tennessee Williams, and artists such as Eugène Delacroix and Henri Matisse. Outside Tangier's bustling port, you can take in the city's stunning environs: hills surrounding a broad bay with a long stretch of beach.

For travelers interested in learning more about Morocco's diverse cultural heritage, we recommend a visit to Tangier's Museum of Moroccan Arts and Antiquities. Another not-to-be-missed experience is a visit to the Grand Souk, where you can put your bargaining skills to the test as you shop for treasures such as brass, leather, rugs, and silver. (B,L,D)

Day 7: Casablanca, Morocco. Early morning arrival in Casablanca, the largest city and main port of Morocco. Casablanca's most impressive sight, the Hassan II Mosque, is one of the largest mosques in the world and one of only a few that non-Muslims can enter. It is built on land reclaimed from the Atlantic and almost half of the its surface lies over the sea. Part of the floor is glass so that worshippers can kneel directly over the water. At night, lasers shine from the top of the minaret toward Mecca. Explore this and Casablanca's other architechtural treasures on your own on an optional shore excursion. (B,L,D)

Day 8: Málaga, Spain. Arrive this morning in Málaga, a lively city on the Costa del Sol, a 100-mile stretch of gorgeous Mediterranean coastline which boasts some of the best beaches in Spain. In the city center, you'll find Málaga's famous Plaza de Toros (bullring), built in 1874 and one of the finest in the world. Málaga is also the birthplace of Pablo Picasso and home to the renowned Picasso Museum. Explore on your own, or choose from an array of optional shore excursions. Be sure to sample some of Málaga's sweet wine and tasty tapas. (B,L,D)

The Phoenicians from Tyre founded Málaga over 3000 years ago, and through the ages, many cultures have made their mark here, including Carthaginians, Romans, Visigothic, Moors and even gypsies. The Moors left the imposing castle on Gibralfaro hill, which overlooks the city and is connected to the Alcazaba below, a fortress and regal residence.

Day 9: At sea. All the fantastic facilities of the ship are available to you as you spend a day at sea. Stroll the ample decks, enjoy the sun, swim, and take advantage of the many leisure activities aboard your luxury ship. (B,L,D)

Day 10: Genoa & Rome. Arrive today in Genoa, Italy. After disembarkation, enjoy some free time to shop or relax at a café before transferring to the airport later today for your short flight to Rome. Upon arrival, transfer to your centrally-located hotel for check-in. Hotel Genova (B)

Day 11: Rome. Enjoy a full day at leisure to explore one of Europe's most dynamic and fascinating cities. From the Colosseum to the Sistine Chapel to the Spanish Steps and so much more, you'll find plenty to see and do as you walk the picturesque and bustling streets of Rome. To begin, we recommend visits to the Seven Hills, Santa Maria Maggiore, the Vittorio Emmanuel Monument, and the Via Veneto.

Then, why not head to the Trevi Fountain, where a coin, thrown over your shoulder into the fountain while you make a wish, is sure to bring you good luck, and the fulfillment of your wish!

Shop, stroll through the Villa Borghese, enjoy a Roman pizza and a glass of wine or espresso in a sidewalk café, and savor the wonderful ambience that is found only here in the Eternal City. (B)

Day 12: Rome/USA. Today, bid farewell to Rome as you transfer independently to the airport for your return flight. Your exciting journey comes to an end as you arrive in the USA later today. (B)
